Are you planning on shooting cast bullets through your can? Bad idea to begin with. Probably voids your suppressor warranty and you will most likely end up with a baffle strike and at a minimum will lead up your suppressor.

As it stands, I don't have a can. Its on the list for mid year. In doing some minimum research and you bringing this point to light, it appears the cast bullets can play heck with suppressor/s. I'll keep this in mind. Thanks for the heads up.

Appreciate everybody's feed back. Just hung up the phone with the supplier who is telling me the barrel is a HBAR. Went on to say, they not advertise it as such, nor is HBAR stamped on the barrel.

One of the members here has been powder coating cast bullets (220's I believe) for the 300 to reduce leading and has had very good luck with them.

So I was under the impression and even told by some lgs that in order to build a 300 blk it would have to be in pistol form. Is this still true or are they considered hbars? I know someone looking to build one for deer hunting and he would much rather build a rifle if he's allowed.

I'm building one into a rifle. I have a 16" barrel with a pistol length gas system.

300BLK is an HBAR, due to caliber.

A 300BLK really shines with a short barrel, so people like to build pistols with them or SBR's. Your friend can build a pistol or a rifle, the choice belongs to them.

Not true again! Not all 300BLK barrels are not HBAR.

Due to the diameter of the bore, it has to be an HBAR, to accommodate the diameter of the bore and maintain the structural strength of the barrel.

Wilson Combat has lightweight 300blk barrels and I bet they are structurally sound. :D http://shopwilsoncombat.com/Wilson-Combat-Match-Grade-Barrel-300-AAC-Blackout-Tactical-Lightweight-16-1-8-Twist-Stainless/productinfo/TR-300LW16/

    Midway has a LW 300BLK barrel. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/311028/ar-stoner-barrel-ar-15-300-aac-blackout-lightweight-contour-1-in-8-twist-16-stainless-steel?cm_vc=ProductFinding

Nice, he was going to do a 10.5" barrel but if he can do a rifle then he'd go 16". Any ideas on where to get a good quality 16" that won't break the bank...preferably a complete upper.

    Thanks

My custom build .300 blk is using this barrel only fluted for weight savings. It's quite nice imo.

The barrel I linked is a lightweight profile and can not be fluted. Most likely you have a Recon profile that is fluted which is a HBAR.http://www.wilsoncombat.com/press/TR-300RC16F.pdf
