Gents, I'm looking to pick up a Model 12, and a local guy happens to have one for sale for $385. Any tips on what to look out for before picking this one up? Bluing is about 50% based on the pictures. The butt stock has an aftermarket recoil pad, not the plastic original. Original barrel with a Mod choke. What's the verdict, buy or not?

Good guns, if 12 gauge sounds about 50 bucks high since has had recoil pad added. 2 things to check, with action closed see if the bolt has a lot of up/down movement, a worn bolt will have droop.
Also when you dry fire the gun you should not be able to pump the slide, you should have to push forward slightly for the action to release, you will hear a faint click. Action will work fine with a live round as recoil releases the action.

If its a field gun without a rib @ 50% blue the asking price is for 90% original blue. Be sure the front and receiver serial #'s match, place close attention the blue is original and wood finish matches. The 28" mod choke helps over full chokes too.
