Nope. The bill goes back to the conference committee without the amendment. Otherwise it cannot go to the conference committee, but back to the House itself. At least that's my read from the end of the article.

They state that since the bill is now essentially the same as the house bill, it will be approved quickly.

Huffine's amendment barring police stops for merely carrying was indeed in the version sent by the Senate. The Texas House just rejected the bill because of it and now it goes to committee. This puppy has to be ironed out by 6/1. Otherwise, open carry of handguns will have to wait at least another 2 years in Texas.

It's kind of a myth about TX being super pro gun unfortunately. Yea, they're better than MD and NY but a lot of weenies in the legislature being swayed by vague "law enforcement concerns".
