What are used ones going for these days? I found a pre-safety 30-30 Marlin levergun when I went to pick up my rifle from my AR smith yesterday, they wanted $300 for it. Good working condition, some surface rust.

In that caliber, a beater is 225-250 and a decent rifle 275-325 from my recent experiences. I have noticed an increased demand for "older" Marlins. I was amazed at how much older model 39's are going for.

I picked up a practically mint 1954 Vintage (pre-safety) Marlin 336RC in 30-30 from Lou for $400+plus tax a couple weeks ago and was glad to pay it. I'd say go for it for $300 if the rust isn't bad and the condition is good.

I grabbed a mint 336RC in 35 Remington last year for $425.00. It was made in 1967. Almost looked unfired. I think I did okay. The JM stamped Marlins have gone up a bit.

Thats about going rate, but pre-Rem Marlins have been going out of control. Really hasnt hit the 30-30 guns yet given the number on the market but someday it will.

Keep your eyes open. I got a 1968 336 in 35 rem last year for $275.00. It was definitely a gun carried in the woods but in good shape otherwise. And a hell of a shooter!

Put a peep receiver sight on that Marlin. That will wake up its shooting potential. Until I put one on mine I didn't observe much difference in precision between loads. With the enhanced sighting precision I observed marked differences.

Buy it if you like it and you want it.

Sounds like a very fair price when compared to the over priced junk sold today.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over a few bucks.

The pre-safety is a definitely plus.

Couldn't agree more. If I like what I'm looking at or if I want it bad enough, I'll just pay for it. Of course I'll TRY to negotiate, but if I like it, I'm buying it regardless.

pssst, uh, don't tell anyone that , ok? ;)
