147 gr 7.62 NATO such as that ZQI that Walmart sells should be no problem according to this....

I've wanted a 308 Garand for a long time...

Can I just call CMP and order or do I need to become a member of some sort?

Note that local groups like the MD Thompson Collectors Assoc are CMP affiliated clubs and will meet that eligibility requirement. Bonus is that if you're a member of the MDTCA you can go shoot machine guns w/ them @ AGC

And it satisfies the AGC club requirement if you want to get a range badge there.

Also American Legion, VFW, etc. meet the requirement or you can join the Garand Collectors Club on line for $25.
