Ok, where can I go looking for a Bayonet for my AR? It has a 16" barrel and a Carbine length gas system with the mounting lug under the A2 front sight.

Won't fit. The GI bayo is made for a 14.5" barrel.
You need a bayonet with a really long handle or else something like this lug extender, http://www.triple-r-products.com/home.html.

Does it fit and lock on? Yes. Does it fit correctly? No. Will it still stab and slice effectively? Yes.

Well, the extender is a fix and the use of a correct bayonet that rattles would work if needed. I wonder if a sleeve could be developed that could be inserted to stop the rattle. Does someone make a longer handle knife that would fit properly? Time for some google foo.

I'd seen bayonets in the past that had a longer handle, looked almost like a double handle on it, but they were rather expensive.
