When you click the link for the chat (i right click and select open in New Window in Chrome) it brings the page up . It will have the "room" filled in you just need to enter a user name and hit connect

You can also download the MIRC client. Server is EFnet, channel is #LockAndLoad.

OK, how the heck do you make a post in the chat room? I got logged in (as Old Fat and Ugly) and can see other posts, but don't see any way to make a post of my own?

At the bottom of the screen you should see your screen name... as you type, your message will appear next to your screen name then hit enter to send.

Next time, if using the web client, look for the slightly different colored single white line at the bottom of the window; that is the input window (type and enter).

Or, you can download the MIRC client and use EFnet as the Server / #LockAndLoad as the channel.
