They are allowed to give me a form whether or not they actually conduct the transfer. It's a standard, blank MSP form - every dealer uses the same form. Although I can't speak to their intentions, my suspicion - my opinion - is that they just didn't want to help out another dealer. It's the same reason that the gun store closest to me charges $100 to receive a long gun - they want you to buy it from them and they make it difficult and/or expensive to buy from someone else.

Again, again, again - their business enterprise, their right. Maybe they get 5 people per week who ask for forms for another dealer. Who knows. All I know is that I was nice and cordial, explained my problem and got down on my knees to beg.

I was talking about selling you one.

Sneak peak at what's coming next Wednesday. I've wanted one of these for a while and was able to pick it up for a fair price.

"Y" marked with 7 out of 8 possible "dots" around it
    "K100 marking"

TINY Cole Dist. import mark partially under the grip

I got this from Empire Arms, very happy with it.

EDIT: Does anyone have a link to the Makarov FAQ? All the links I can find are to the non-existant makarov.com site
Edit2: Nevermind, found it with the wayback machine

Pictures are out of focus, but from what one can see, man, that really looks like a clean gun in excellent shape. Got to get me an East German Makarov.

Yep, I suck at taking pics and didn't feel like setting up a tripod. I can't keep the camera steady to save my life in macro mode.

But, yes it is in very nice shape. Very little finish wear, and looks unfired.

In preparation of my receipt of my Turked Gew 88 today, I thought I'd revisit and share one of my favorite shipping pictures.

My good luck picture paid off.

I got my Turked Gew 88 and it was packed very well. I don't know anything about these. Except for the bolt (which is Turkish marked and matches itself), the rear sight leaf and maybe the butt plate (?), everything matches down to the follower and screws. The rear band has an Imperial German unit mark and it is numbered to the rifle, so the rifle originally belonged to that unit which is cool. There are a few small import marks and a weird "7.95" on the side of the rear sight.

Looks like you're the new owner of a mostly matching Turked Gewehr 88/05. I picked one up a few months ago. Turked Gew 88's are fairly hard to find with any matching numbers.

AIM comes through with hot CZ-82 action...

Pluses: Finish is 100%, no crappy flecking on the whateverthehell they use on the slide. OMFG that hand-feel...it's like it was designed for my hand. OMFG that double-action trigger pull....

    Minus: Goddamn, sh**ty, crooked dot-matrix motherf***ing import mark bulls**t. I f***ing hate Century. Assholes.

Info: Looks to be a 1990, mil "she" and crossed swords. Reworked by VOP in 1998...Grips barely scratched.

    Of note: Parked barrel.

    Ok, pics:

Would you expect to see a mismatched rear sight on a Gew 88/05 since the sight was updated for the S round or would the Germans have numbered the replacement to match?

I'm not entirely sure, but if the Germans didn't mismatch it, the Turks probably did when they renumbered it in their numerals. I'll have to check mine to see if it matches or not.

I'm sure you probably already know, but refrain from shooting high powered ammo in these old Gew 88's. U.S. Commercial ammo should be fine but I wouldn't shoot any Euro made stuff in it, especially surplus. Some of the guys on Gunboards said they load rounds using .321 diameter bullets instead of the usual 7.92x57mm .323 diameter.

My rifle actually has a normal rear sight leaf with regular numbers. I'm guessing that the old sight got trashed and somebody just slapped a replacement on it.

I was aware of the ammo warning, but thanks for looking out. I plan to load up some light loads for it.

It's actually a really cool rifle. It's not as sexy as a Mauser but it looks, feels and smells 124 years old, and the bore is surprisingly nice.
