    No law against carrying either a stainless steel retractable pen ($10 at Staples) or a flashlight.



    More and more I just carry my Surefire in my front pants pocket.



    Mostly for pragmatic purposes but also because it has other applications if needed. I honestly feel like I would be more likely to use a striking weapon than I would a knife in the very unlikely scenario that I'd have to be in that position, but that's just me.

    when I fly, I always have a carabineer handy. I hang it off my pack/carry on. preferably an open D type. I generally don't carry two though. they start to look like handcuffs and might elicit a second glance from some.
