Do your .NET developers do their own database work? As a DBA it has been my experience that app developers often don't write very good procs. We've never had developers do their own SSIS work - the DBAs do that.

More and more it seems in the world of IT that employers expect someone to be a jack of all trades with the ability to do almost anything and everything thrown at them, and from my perspective, you wind up with one of two things. You either wind up with a person who really can do it all, but someone who lives their job, or you wind up with someone who is pretty half-assed at all of it.

Well said, and usually the latter for the money typically offered coming in the door.
