I realize this is not really your problem in MD, but I believe this will kick in the smart gun law in NJ. The law says that if a viable smart gun goes on sale anywhere in the US, we will only be able to purchase smart guns within 3 years.

So between now and then, thanks for emptying my bank account as I stock up.

Actually it's one of the best gun stores in the state IMO. Friendly, competent, fair, very customer oriented.

But it's your right to not shop there. It is a business decision for both buyer and seller.

Really? I guess that's why MD was able to ban AR-15's the most popular rifle sold in America. To say it works one way is to say it has to work the other.

There are a variety of factors, but being an unproven technology hurts their chances. Thus the NJ bill that mandates them only once they hit the market.

Do you think it's fair in a free market society (what is left of it) to not be able to obtain the product? Say I wanted that exact gun should no one offer it if it's on the market?

Yes if the reason you can't purchase it isn't related to government intervention. How could it not be?

Engage is a good store.. Excellent customer service as well. Its not about the store. Its about this new gun technology that is an epic failure. I support engage for offering it as a choice. Its is ultimately up to the buyer if he chooses it as his HD weapon.

Doesn't Maryland have a law on the books that says once safe gun technology becomes available that they will be the only guns allowed to be sold? I seem to remember something from the Glendening era about this.

    Regards,

NJ has that law and it kicks in 3 years from the AG making a determination.

Engage will make money from this. They are, after all, near the DC area and suburbs. Like the article said, probably a Georgetown high income, or Bethesda, sensitive liberal might now want to buy a gun for the first time. That's a good thing. Andy is right, freedom of choice should be respected. I was against gun shops selling these guns, but the manner in which Andy explained his position changed my mind. We can't start prohibiting types of guns either, as Second Amendment advocates. I've been to Engage before and their service is great and so is their pro gun rights advocacy. So if this technology needs to be sold or tested, it might as well be them. As a business, location matters, and for them, being in this state and near DC will help them sell these guns. However, like others have said, legislation better not be passed to mandate smart gun use only. It's up to us, the public, to ensure that. This might create another uphill battle for us, but we can't become our enemies and start restricting liberty in the name of liberty.

I remember that too. A regulation was delayed because the technology did not exist.

You are mistaken. Maryland has a law in place that requires monitoring of developments in the field. That is all. The MD law is nothing like that in NJ.

The point is this technology is not good for us and never will be. Therefore the gun community should not support this technology with any money. If there is no market for a product then there will be no development of the product.

Gun dealers have as much responsibility as the buyers do in creating or not creating a market for this technology. Whether engage likes it or not, they are opening a door that is funding the development of a product that will completely change how reliable and controlled our firearms are.

Im really sorry some people feel the way they do about us but that is their CHOICE and they're entitled to it.

I consider myself exceptionally pro-gun. I will defend that right with my life or by taking others. Its that simple for me. I consider gun rights my personal jihad, which is why you see many of the things we do. We consistently push the envelope here in MD and I am extremely confrontational with the powers the be. In fact, I know have to pose any of my questions to MSP in writing and they will respond via letter. Apparently my attitude is reviled there. Moreover, I dont know any other dealer that has been as active against SB281 than us although everyone has contributed greatly for our cause.

This comes down to just a few things for me. The foremost being is that we can get people who are on the fence regarding gun ownership to buy guns. As many of you know, when you take an anti-gunner shooting they almost invariably love it. Yesterday, Chris Hayes from MSNBC shot my UMP and loved it. We all know that he represents the most extreme left wing of our media. However, if we can get those guys behind guns it is in our favor. If we can get people who are on that fence to go out and shoot it will only be good for us. Isnt that what we are supposed to be about? Encouraging the natural right to keep and bear arms?

I cannot stand that progun people are calling for the prohibition of a firearm. It doesnt matter what it is. That is opposed to everything we stand for and our entire platform. We cannot acquiesce to the fear that some ******* politician would make this mandatory. Thats what we have the REAL guns for, to prevent that. We cannot compromise our values but we cannot bow down to fear either. What drives people talking about gun prohibition or boycotts is fear. It doesnt matter if its from the right or left.

Despite what is said by others who support this technology, there is only one application for it and that is the gun right fencesitter. In its present configuration it is not ready for law enforcement use. It most likely is not ready for self defense use BUT it could get the soccer mom crowd, the urban dweller, or the pinko lefty into guns. This would be a good thing.

Anyone is free to email me at andy@engagearmament.com or call the shop at 301-838-3151 to discuss if you want. Or come into the shop and talk to me.
