This poll is guaranteed to get an overwhelming "no" due to the wording and timing of the question. It is obviously being asked in response to the 8-yr old girl who couldn't control a fully automatic UZI and ended up killing her instructor, so most people are going to automatically say "no". However, children handling "regular" firearms with supervision isn't the real issue - the real issue is children handling FULLY AUTOMATIC weapons with adult supervision.

A proper poll would be something like this:

    1. Do you think that children should be allowed to handle FULLY AUTOMATIC weapons with adult supervision? Yes or No

    2. Do you think that children should be allowed to handle any standard firearm with adult supervision? Yes or No

If you asked both questions together, the former would probably get an overwhelming "no" response, while the latter would get a majority "Yes". That is how I would vote.

I just posted, and it only went to 26... Something is not right if two people voted after 25.... wouldn't surprise me though.

CNN's polls are odd. The last time we had all hit one, it took quite some time for the results to show.

Maybe they're just saying that it's safer to teach an 8 year old child to shoot an Uzi WITHOUT adult supervision so that there's no one in the line of fire when the gun starts recoiling all over the place.
