Hello, I moved here from Texas and I miss being able to go out to ranches and target shoot. I have recently gotten the itch to try out long range shooting (1000m preferably, but 500+ would possibly satisfy me). I was wondering if there is anything like that available within 2-4 hours driving distance of Southern Maryland?

Welcome to MDS, and Southern Maryland, check out Delmarva Shooting Clays url link is at the bottom. It has a 500mm range and fits most people tight budget plus their good people. Do a search on the MDS web site for "Delmarva" there are a bunch of photos and a few videos from past MDS shoots, there also some in the Gallery.

I call Texas home I just live here.

Thanks for all the awesome info. I'll look at all the options available to me. Are there any 1000m clubs near Southern Maryland? I'm completely new to long range shooting so it would be nice to find a group that would be able to help me learn the ropes.

I don't think there are any 1,000m ranges or clubs in MD. I think Fidelity's list is correct.

Quantico in VA is the best known, they have long range matches there; I don't know about club or practice shooting there.

I would look into the instuction given by Ed Shell in VA; he's the MDS long range guru ... 300 yards with a .22 ... 16ft of calculated drop, impact on steel, 5 seconds later, audible report another 3 seconds. He teaches centerfire long range too.

    Welcome!

$250/year ... is within the 4hr drive from SoMD

I know the local 4H shoots rimfire and air rifle there on alternate Sundays during the warm months. Their coach is a lifelong family friend. I keep meaning to go with him to get in and check out the range for free; I went to school with the owners' older sister.

I haven't been there in years, but they were real nice. They just let me and a friend on there to shoot one day during the week for nothing.

I've been researching the same thing, for you Quantico is the best option. The range office is only open on Thursdays. Go down there and talk to the girl in the office, you'll get everything you need to become a member.
