I was talking to a guy today about 10.5 upper that he wants to put on to a lower but he said that it's a NFA weapon. I asked if he were to put it on to a "pistol" lower would it then just be pistol? He nor do I knew the answer. I'm leaning towards to yes if the lower was reported to MSP as a pistol lower not just a lower. I know MSP has made some changes in their thinking on lowers and NFA weapons. Thanks Chris

If it is on a pistol lower it is not NFA.

If it is a lower classified as "other" and hasnt been configured in any other way first, then it is also legal to build it as a pistol.

So, is a stripped lower when purchased, classified as "other"? Is that how that works?

Just make sure to never put a pistol upper on a lower that ever had a rifle upper on it. Aluminum made after 1994 has mimetic poly-alloy RFID technology infused inside it. This allows the lower to remember each upper you attach and report the config to the BATF.









Ok...maybe not.

Saker 762 is in purgatory. Also, I always build my lowers as pistols first. I document the builds. If I make it into a rifle, it can go back to a pistol in the future. The reverse is not allowed.
