How are you going to do that with a 37? Get it bored out to 40?

Ill keep it 37mm. I plan on getting a 12G Insert, make a Beehive Adaptor for .22, and loading some Solid Projectile, Flachette, Chalk, and Bean Bag Rounds. These all need a DD launcher from my understanding.

Why do I have this sneaking suspicion that you are going to post pics of it, but not let anybody touch it. I can't blame you if you do go that route. :D

Ill let you and SlingBlade do whatever you want to it. Just need to have some land to do some tests on it.:D

Im not often giddy about this kind of thing but im really excited. I went with a 9" Havoc.

Why would non-lethal stuff need a tax stamp? I thought the whole point of a 40mm needing one is that it's for grenades.

BATFE says some non lethal is still a Destructive Device. Has to do with sporting purposes and the bore diameter.

Not really much of a difference otherwise between a 40mm and 37m besides what the tube/action can handle.

With a 37mm you can get it with no paperwork and form 1 it if you plan to use non signaling devices in it.

Fom my understanding the only legal thing you can fore out of a 37mm is signaling and smoke unless you make it a Destructive Device. Any antipersonnel or Solid Projectiles are forbidden. You don't need a stamp to have the "antipersonnel rounds if they have under a certain amount of charge in them AND you have a REGISTERED 37mm luncher.

For the 40mm you have to find a place that will get one and transfer it. Not easy, nor are the rounds easy to get. The 37mm is much easier to obtain and you just get it engraved and Form 1 the device for $200.00

FWIW Im still not sure if a D.D. is legal in MD. I will only proceed if its legal. Otherwise Ill wait till Im not a MD resident anymore.

If you are going to do a DD and have happy happy joy joy ammo for it, my dad might save a few tree stumps for you to test it with. :lol2:

Either that or he will break out the Tannerite. He doesn't live in the state of MD anyways. :D

It would be news to me if DDs were banned in MD as a whole. HE rounds in particular, I don't know about.

I have heard that you can bore out a Spike's 37mm to 40mm, so you don't necessarily need a form 4 for 40mm.

About once a year, I get the irrational desire to go build a 37mm DD using one of those sexy Spike's stand-alone launchers, but eventually realize that I'd have zero places to shoot it in MD, except maybe as an overly pricey single-shot shotgun.

I've been trying to talk myself out of wanting a 9" Havoc. I will wait for your review to convince me. :D

    Per Spike's:

The Havoc is intended for low pressure 37mm rounds plus 26.5mm and 12ga flares only. The locking mechanism is not designed to handle the pressure of standard shotgun shells or 22LR beehive adapters. It is recommended that you DO NOT register the Havoc as a DD or AOW for any other purposes than those it was meant for.

...we no longer offer DD barrels separately. However we stopped recommending using the Hacoc for DD use, it's just not worth the liability.

Sounds like CYA, but YMMV if you want to try it.
