    ......

Keep pushing public sector employees and public services will suffer. Then we'll really see some bitching.

I actually would like to see less public sector employees and the resulting less public services, i just think we have too many

now why do people spend so much $$$$$$$ to be elected to a position that pays pennies compared to what it cost to run an election campaign.

it is not just Dollars they spent, the scrutiny of your personal and your family's personal life etc etc is well beyond that.

the only thing that drives a person to do this is ego. You can call it, paint it, or cover it any way you like ... at the end it is ego to be the most powerful person in the world.

A number of these people could make more in the private sector. I do not understand, how in the world the Postmaster General makes more than the Speaker of the House, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. That is ridiculous, particularly considering the billions that the Post Office has lost in the last several years.

Dude - the Speaker of the House has helped lose a LOT more than billions. :sad20:

That's why I hate usajobs and gave up on it years ago. I know that a lot of the jobs on there aren't really being offered...and you spend so much time changing your resume, cover sheet, and jumping through the hoops just to apply to the job...

Plus, the job descriptions are so vague...this one is a little better, since it's a management type of position and there's no way to really give specifics...but for more technical positions, I always read them having no idea whether or not it fits.

You can pretty much tell the job postings that are only up there for a week are already taken. The ones longer than that, probably not.

yup, not saying that you can actually apply for these positions, just showing that this is the entire Federal IT department where I work. All helpdesk and technical personnel are contractors and contractors switching to a Fed job do so for the most part at GS14.

I doubt this is the normal position in your agency. ITs systmes management, not a help desk job. With these qualifications the employee could make much more with a medium sized company that relies on IT as a critical service for its business.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In order to qualify for this position based on experience, applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service managing IT Service Delivery/Support for an enterprise-wide customer base. Examples may include managing Service Desk support and supporting functions of Release Management services for IT business and technology solutions, Service Desk support functions of Incident and Problem Management; Engineering expertise in Oracle, Unix, Linux, SAN technology; and design and performance tuning of Microsoft Messaging Systems.

Anyone who can step into a position like this and the comparable position in your company pays less speak up with the type of business. I'd like to hear it.

All my Federal IT counter parts are GS14, all my colleagues who converted did so as GS14. This GS15 was filled by a current GS14 on the payroll and another contractor took his spot.
And please don't believe the job description ... none of these guys have all these qualifications. They hire very specific. They keep the description so broad and "require" everybody to be a specialist in everything so they can always justify their hire.
This is the standard job description at my agency. All the contractors run the entire IT infrastructure, no problem turning FED and than managing it, you know it inside out.
You have read that they list these as examples and not requiring anybody to manage all of that ...

THIS IS THE ONLY JOB QUALIFYING REQUIREMENT:

In order to qualify for this position based on experience, applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service managing IT Service Delivery/Support for an enterprise-wide customer base

Factor in the lush benefits, tons of annual and sick leave, security, and lack of instability and you would be close.

#2 Postmaster General. He's lucky his pay isn't commensurate with his departments performance. He'd be a GS-10 at best.

    LOL amen.

The GS schedule is adjusted based on geographic location. The Baltimore/DC locality pay bumps the pay scale up accordingly due to cost of living. As another poster said, the executive scale is another thing altogether- Senior Executive Service (SES).

    You lost me.

I think he means that there are so little amount of SES employees that in order to get a 1,000 of them in one place it would require the majority.

$125K/year is GS-14 pay. Well up the food chain...pretty well as high as you can go without going into management.

    Depends on the agency.

For us, working 14's is a hard thing to get over in the DoD (unless your a coffee runner in the Pentagon...) :lol2:

Well I know when my mom reaches her time at NSA she will then get a paid pension from the government for the rest of her life. Maybe that used to work, but I fail to see the government can afford that when people are now routinely living 20-30 years after retirement.

I am 23 and I think even public pensions won't exist when reach retirement age.

The federal government was ahead of its time in the 80's when they switched to the FERS system. Your mother I'm guessing is under the old CSRS system with COLA increases, etc. Sweet gig for her.

    Selfless service??

Can't spell LDRSHIP without it. :D
