How about a campaign to ban "Assault Babies", instead. The ones they've been euphemistically calling "Anchor Babies", for years, now.

And the Mexican drug cartels should stop buying F/A AK-47s by the boat load from North Korea, China, Russia, and wherever else the arms dealers sell them from. Do you really believe that the cartels want semi-autos from the US when they can get containers full of the real deal much easier elsewhere???

Why thank you X but to be honest, Dos Equis and XX Dark, just doesn't agree with me.

Makes the Pachanga Grill refried and black beans just to potent for the wife, if you catch my whiff.

Don't want to even think about the Blue Flamer potential

My wife is too much of sweetie. Don't know what "hot boxing" is but I love too much to even give her a "dutch oven" when she is under the blankets. She may be small but that woman can be dangeous when provoked.

I have not seen a Mexican firearm but they do exist. They did invent the first military semi-automatic firearm the Mondragon decades before the M1 Garand which utlized many design elements from it and it was used by the Germans in WWI.

Mondragon 7x57

and they made the Mendoza light machine gun during the WWII era.

.30-06 (7.62x63mm) caliber Mendoza RM2 light machine gun

And here is their pistol. Although it looks similar to the 1911 it has some unique design features such as being short recoil operated, locked breech that uses rotary barrel locking, includes a single-piece safety / slide stop lever which is located on the left side of the gun, captive return spring rod, and no separate return spring plunger.

and nowadays they are using this puppy

Under Article 10 of the Mexican Constitution it is a felony to import firearms into Mexico.

This whole 'problem' would cease if Mexico bucked up and started enforcing their own laws.

This has already been posted in another topic but it's just as important to say it here too.
If you support drug prohibition(the war on drugs) then don't complain when they renew and/or expand the "assault weapons ban".
Alcohol prohibition resulted in the National Firearms Act which outlawed "gangster guns" and today all the crime caused by drug prohibition could very likely result in another AWB.

agreed. even our own maryland 'assault pistols' ban was supposedly the guns the gang members were using. just like in 30's, eliminate the prohibition and you eliminate the market that supports a majority of the organized crime.

just as the antis don't see that a few murders here and there are going to happen if we allow free citizens to own guns, this is better than the extreme alternative of tyranny and oppression. likewise, an overdose here and there is a fact of life we have to accept if we are going to be free of oppression.

it's choosing the lesser of two evils in very a tough world. either we have a bit of crime or a lot of tyranny. i think the answer is clear.

VERY well said, my friend.

Well, the report was released today by the "Pacific Council on International Policy."

Here is the press release: http://www.pacificcouncil.org/interi...D=1&itemID=249

Here is the 39-page report:http://www.pacificcouncil.org/pdfs/P...%20version.pdf

Here are the credited task force sponsors:
Quote:
The Mexican Council on Foreign Relations and the Pacific Council on International
Policy gratefully acknowledge the following enterprises, organizations, and individuals
who provided financial or organizational support for this Task Force:
Banamex/Citigroup, Malin Burnham, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the
California Community Foundation, University of San Diego (USD), El Colegio de la
Frontera Norte (COLEF), the Graduate School of Public Administration and Public Policy
(EGAP) at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM),
Arizona State University (ASU), the Center for Migrant Affairs of the State of Nuevo León,
the State Government of Nuevo León, the Mexican Consulate General in San Diego,
Grupo Femsa, Silicon Border Inc., Enrique Mier y Terán, and Alejandra Ocádiz.
Here is the false statement on page 15:
Quote:
Current laws and regulations in each country sometimes impede cooperation. U.S. gun
laws allow individuals to purchase a range of firearms whose possession would be
severely punished in Mexico; some states have much laxer restrictions, and in the case
of gun shows, sales are entirely unregulated. The end of the assault weapons ban in the
United States has meant that much more dangerous weaponry can now be purchased
easily in the United States, and differences in state laws drive controls to the low
common denominator for smugglers. That said, U.S. officials currently possess
considerable legal authority to prevent and disrupt arms trafficking, both by preventing
straw purchases and interdicting southbound traffic.
. . that leads to the bullet point recommendation on page 17 for "immediate action":
Quote:
The United States should intensify efforts to curtail the smuggling of firearms and
ammunition into Mexico by better monitoring licensed gun sellers, working with them
identify suspicious purchases, regulating gun shows, reinstituting the Clinton-era ban
on assault weapons, conducting targeted inspections of southbound traffic, and
providing leads to a more robust Mexican Customs authority. There should be at
least one ATF agent in each U.S. consulate in Mexico to assist Mexican authorities
with weapons traces and train Mexican law enforcement officers. If warranted by
intelligence, the U.S. should also consider using Joint Inter-Agency Task Force ( JIATF)
-South resources to interdict international arms smuggling into North America.

Today you can find standard 30-round AK47 magazines for $10. During the 1994 "assault weapons ban" these same magazines were selling for $75+. There's a lot of money to be made if they renew the ban!

Bush aide urges weapons ban to slow Mexican drug war

Quote:
The former head of U.S. Customs and Border Protection called Monday for the U.S. to reinstitute the ban on assault weapons and take other measures to rein in the war between Mexico and its drug cartels, saying the violence has the potential to bring down legitimate rule in that country.

Former CBP Commissioner Robert C. Bonner also called for the United States to more aggressively investigate U.S. gun sellers and tighten security along its side of the border, describing the situation as "critical" to the safety of people in both countries, whether they live near the border or not.
