Can you blue stainless? Bluing is a form of rust, very controlled rust, but it is rust. Does SIG anodize the barrels? It also could another finish. Have you confirmed that it is blued? I mean from SIG?

Not sure about vinegar since it's an acid but what do I know but mixed with water it makes both a salad dressing and a douche or is that oil?

If you want to polish the barrel you could use a dremmal or buffing wheel if you have one. Take a look here http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/general...-home-job.html there is alot of info and diffrent ways to do this.

I used white vinegar to strip the barrel on my M&P40. I just let it soak for about 1 hour and used a scotchbrite pad and the finish wiped right off. I then used my drimel and some buffing compound that I got from the home depot to shine it up nice.

And hows the M&P barrel holding up now that you removed the finish?

I used the Ryobi Stainless Steel polish. A tube of it was about $7 I think. I used my little Dremel Buffer wheels and went to town. Dab it in the polish then hit the barrel.

I can't imagine you'd have a problem of any kind with no finish on the barrel as long as you keep it oiled. I mean any well used barrel will be missing most of the blue anyway. Look at the one in the OP. It has a lot of bare metal showing.

I just want to say, I got the idea from the M&P forums. I think everyone over there does it. So, I'm not the rocket surgion that came up with this as I would be affraid of ruining my gun. I'm cool with admitting that I'm a follower, not a leader in this case. I'll try and post pic's of my bling when I get home tonight. |

bead blaster. gentler than a blackbeauty/sand blaster. works well to remove surface finishes and storage rust. new finish can be obtained on a polishing wheel. use some jewelers rouge if needed.

Can't help you but I've got a lot of practice polishing my bayonet.

This was the first run about 10 min. I started with 400 grit paper then red polishing bar on a buffer. Now i just need to do red again and then white should shine up mirror like i also did the front of my guide rod. The wear on the top of barrel will take alittle more work.
