It's a force fit. Friction keeps the cap from falling off the nipple. One advantage of having the nipple and cap underneath is that it's a bit less likely to be affected by wet weather.

    thanks

    New addition.
.50 Cal Hawken carbine. 1:48" twist so it'll run with PRB or power belt bullets.

So I've been wanting to post pics of my BP Colts here for a while. I had a collection of about 10 BP Colts but sold some of them back in the late 80's. It was a mistake. These are hard to find, and cost more than triple what I paid for them.
Here's the (real) Colt made revolvers I have left:
second generation Third Dragoon; Third generation 1862 Pocket Police, and a third generation 1860 Army Butterfield Commemorative with two cylinders.

    a few long ones

A 25 cal built by a guy named Jack Pasick, A 36 cal by Ron Tourney(SP) and a real one made by a guy named J Kline. Maybe lancaster area? The kline has a barrel that has a 6 sided rather than round bore. I used to know what it was called but I forgot. All great shooters. There's a Hopkins and Allen on there also.

    Underhammer - American percussion system

    UnderhammerBlackPowderRifle_a.jpg

Underhammers were borne and bred here in America, while the sidelock was a European development that came over on the boat. It is the underhammer that is the true, original, American percussion system.

In the early 1820s, Reverend Forsyth's percussion cap made its debut on this side of the pond and underhammer development in the United States of America began with the issuing of the very first firearms patent for a production gun to Fordyce Ruggles on November 24, 1826. His patent was for his underhammer pistol design which became the basis of many copy-cat designs of the following two decades. Fordyce and his brother, Adin, set up shop in Hardwick, Massachusetts in December of 1825.
