Second, just looking around the site it is nice to know that there are many other like minded people out there.

I've been acquiring guns for something over 20 years. My version of "collecting" would be a heresy to some, I shoot my guns and am not looking for pristine guns when I buy. Partly because I can't afford them and partly because I'f I'm not shooting them, well heck, they're made to be shot, not just sit in a dark safe and take up space.

Lately I've gotten involved with a group called the USMC Living History Unit and have been developing an impression for USMC in Vietnam 1965-69, I use as much of my collection as is appropriate for this ;) I volunteered for 14 years at Fort McHenry doing living history with their group, its nice to be living history from a time when the clothing was actually made for the hot weather.

I've also gotten one of my sons starting shooting with the 4H Bullseyes. Hes shooting Trap and learning -as am I- that its not as easy as it looks.

Its all fun though, if It weren't fun well, what'd be the point.
Like fly fishing with my younger son, leading a cub scout den, breaking and fixing my cars and so on its all about fun and learning.

Well new to this forum anyway, I'm not new to firearms and I've been a guy all my life.

I've been "collecting" for something over 20 years and I'm at the point now where I will no longer tolerate a safe queen, I am either shooting them or they go and provide me with money for other projects :) I've recently gotten one of my sons into a 4H trap shooting club and modified my Mossberg for his use (tho its a little big for him, he does hit w/it) and I just got an 870 youth 20ga for him to use as well.

Current project is to develop a very beat up but functional M1 I got at Shooters Discount into an M1D to use for a) fun shooting B) living history and C) fun shooting.

Since spending $500+ on a barrel is out of the question, I got a D barrel from Gun Parts Corp along with the scope mount and shortened handguard and one of their recreated M84, I must say its a fantastic replica. Comparing it to pics of originals its dead on.

I'm thinking of talking to Scotts over in Glen Burnie since I've heard many good things about his shop, and I just can't get past the fact that Fulton requires me to ship even tho they're a few miles from home.

Anyone else I ought to consider for the barrel install? I can do the rest myself (otoh there isn't much rest to do at that point.) I'll replace the stock at some point with an original D stock but that can wait.

Have been part of Ollie's Army for a number of years, but never saw any shooting-related products for sale there before, except for books.

Visited the Pasadena store on Ritchie Highway today and to my surprise they had a couple of display islands of various shooting products, especially Uncle Mike's law enforcement-type holsters - black leather, OD, camo - in several styles. Also, shooting sticks, leather shooting gloves (large only), and several accessory belt items. Bunch of other stuff I can't remember. Massive savings!

Also, lots of miscellaneous gun cleaning items: smallbore pistol cleaning patches, 10-gauge bore swabs, Hoppe's Elite Field Cleaner (32 oz. spray bottle-$12.99), Stoney Point bore guide (.17-.25 CF-$8.99), Hoppe's Elite Pre-Saturated Cleaning Patches (40-$1.99), and Hoppe's Lubricating Oil (1 gallon-$18.99). They also had a cleaning solvent for blackpowder guns.

Worth checking out! :party29:
