We still have some slots left. I encourage the following people to take this course-
Shooters who want to save both time and money by understanding that "perfect practice makes perfect"
Looking to gain confidence with their pistol in a positive, constructive atmosphere.
Would love to know what they teach at the big name schools without spending the big name price tag.
Hope to see you there- George

How much pistol skill is required before attending this course?

This should be obvious, but I hope everyone brings their handgun in a case and their ammo unloaded. This is my first class, and I'm somewhat worried someone might show up open carrying with their hand gun and magazines loaded on their belt.

I think you meant to reply to Guderian's post.
Hope so, anyway.
Will you be having this course on a weekend? I just can't make it on a worknight. Mercop has a bunch of courses I'd like to take, but Free State is an hour from my house.

Thank you FreeState. Looking forward to this.
Mercop, I know it's early, but can you provide info regarding your home defense class and non-intro combat pistol class scheduled for October. I'm thinking about registering for those classes too.
Thanks!

Signed up!
Quick question though, I have a Blackhawk Serpa OWB holster. I know that particular one has been the target of some discussion regarding NDs/safety and effectiveness (although I have not had any problems with it to date). Will that be ok for the class? The only other holster I currently have for the gun I plan to use (Glock 19) is IWB.

Finally signed up as well.
I have a question too - the "pouch", is that something we'd have to have on us or is a range bag OK? I've got plenty of pockets, will that do?
Thanks! Looking forward to it!

Your pocket will be find for this class to hold a spare mag. As far as the Serpa goes, there is no problem using it for the class. My caveat is that I would not allow my mother in law to carry a Serpa. The class is almost full, but I understand we have a few more spots left. Call soon if you want in.- George

Fantastic class and highly recommended.
My wife and I attended. George is an incredibly knowledgeable and passionate teacher. The classroom portion was engaging, the live fire drills were excellent skill builders and having a big guy like George run at you with a stun gun in stylish vibram 5 fingers, while firing the airsoft at him was worth the price of the class.
It's hard to describe the amount of information/training we received; it'll take us a few days to process. We'll definitely be taking another class. Just let us know, when you're having the tactical carbine class.

The class was fun. The gist of the class it to first cover the fundamentals of marksmanship and gun handling before we take you outside and pressure test it. During force on force we can see what only doing square range firearm training produces in real life.
1) Even at extremely close distances people put two hands on the gun.
2) That once they do put the support hand on the gun, they do not remove it to defend themselves and often just end up exchanging fatal rounds for fatal rounds and strikes.
3) Even when rushed in wide open spaces people stand still or move backwards on the same line as the attack.
We also find that-
1) You cannot close one of your eyes while shooting a moving target.
2) You cannot do the old "two the chest and one to the head" bullshit and fairy dust tale when someone is charging you.
3) You better have some open hand combatives skill for when not if your weapon malfunctions.
4) That the vast majority of rounds strike the attacker COM even without using your sights, but these rounds are going to primarily to the Circulatory System which is notoriously slow for stopping people. So when you focus on only your shooting and not moving they are still likely to hit/stab/cut you before they die.

Sounds like a fun class. Is there any way this would count toward:
Proof of knowledge of handgun safety. Please see page 6 paragraph (5) of “Laws Relating to Permits to Carry Concealed Firearms”.
(5) Demonstrates to the issuing authority a knowledge of handgun safety. The applicant may fully satisfy this requirement by submitting to the issuing authority, through documentation in accordance with this subparagraph, proof that the applicant has within 5 years prior to the date of application completed a course that included handgun safety offered by or under the supervision of a federal, state, county or municipal law enforcement agency or a firearms instructor certified by a private firearms association recognized as knowledgeable in matters of firearms safety by the issuing authority or by the state in which the course was taken. A course completion certificate or other document, or a photocopy, is sufficient if it recites or otherwise demonstrates that the course meets all of the requirements of this subparagraph.
This is for a Maine CCW permit. I already have Florida, but travel to Maine in the summer. I would like to take something other than a basic handgun safety course so I might get some useful real world skills. I've been shooting for 20 years and have worked as a range safety officer for 7 years at GSSF matches.
thanks,
