Server Move

I'm sure everyone has noticed that this site has been sluggish lately, database errors, etc. Well, it appears that MDShooters.com has outgrown its home and has to be moved to a more powerful server. We are sucking the processor and RAM dry, and there is nothing left to work with.

That said, I was told that the move would occur within the next 24 hours. I don't know what that means for us at this point. The site may go down, new threads disappear, etc. I just don't know, but I will keep you guys updated with any info that I have. In the end, the site should be much more responsive and we will be able to continue to grow without crashing the server anymore.

I was wondering what was going on bc I couldnt seem to get onto the site about an hour ago. My screen came up that it couldnt find the server, but all other websites worked for me.

I just got word that the the site is going to be transferred to a new server tonight. This will require an IP address change which can lead to some problems. The site will remain up on the old server during the transition, while at the same time it will be available on the new server. This means that if your computer resolves the IP address of the old server and you create a post, it will not exist on the new server, and, and, and... Oh never mind. :confused:

The important thing to know is that to avoid any potential problems, I'm going to turn the site off sometime around 9PM tonight, and I will not turn it back on until sometime tomorrow morning. I apologize, but it is better than the alternative of losing threads and posts. In the meantime, if you need something to make up for your MDShooters addiction, try heroin or crack. ;)

I know this is not something that you are normally willing to consider, but there are people here that use this site everyday and really enjoy it.

There are several of us that understand the cost of running a site and would like to help out since we are on here everyday!

Just a reminder that we are going to attempt the server move again tonight. I don't know exactly what time, and I will be given little notice, so the forum could be turned off at any time from this point forward. Hopefully we can get it taken care of tonight and be settled into our speedy new home by morning. :thumbsup:
