I have gotten a ton of e-mails asking this question...

What spare parts should I have for a CCJA Carbine/M4 course or the (2) day High Threat Contractor course?

Keeping in mind that in every course we have at least (1) armorer (Me) here is MY advice.

(1) Spare Rifle (If you have one).
LUBE and lot's of it!
Cleaning Kit
A rigid rod to clear your bore of obstructions or stuck casings
1 bolt (complete) NEW NOT Used!
1 extractor (complete) Black insert 3or5 coil spring
2 extractor springs and inserts Black
1 extractor pin
1 cam pin
1 firing pin
4 firing pin retaining pins
2 sets of gas rings
1 charging handle
1 trigger spring
1 hammer spring
1 disconnector
1 disconnector spring
1 buffer spring

Feel free to add to or delate from ther list.

Batteries for RDS or flashlights.
Sling hardware - my HK hook on my single point sling died on me during a class, I did have a spare and it saved the day.

"1 Spare Rifle, if you have one."

LOL. What a testament to the M-4 System!
In all seriousness, I saw one blow up in the hands of a buddy of mine during an Armour Group course.

Probably what happened was that a worn out extractor spring caused a failure to extract. The next round was fed straight into the primer of the one that didn't get pulled from the chamber. Something on the bolt face, probably the nub of the ejector smacked round no. 2 straight in the primer.

Luckily the bullet went right through the ass end of the one in the chamber, through its throat, and then out of the barrel. But, when round no. 2 lit off outside the chamber, the pressure caused part of the upper receiver to fragment and literally blew the bottom of the magazine out, along with the spring, follower, and remaining ammunition.

Luckily, my buddy wasn't hurt seriously. But it was sure scary!
