Let me see if I got this right...

I go to 6776 Reisterstown Road, Suite 102 (first floor), Baltimore, MD 21215 for the fringerprinting. I get 2 x federal prints and 1 x state prints.

Then I take the state prints and bothcopies of the Form 4 to 1111 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville, MD 21208.

They don't need a self-addressed envelope or anything from me, right? Does MD have some offical instructions for this stuff, or do I just show up at 1111.

And MD doesn't want the passport photos, either, right?

Thanks!

You can get the prints done at any MSP barracks, or local LE agency if they do prints, but you might need your own copies of the federal cards.

Yes, take both copies of the Form 4 and DON'T SIGN THEM until you actually hand them to the MSP lady at 1111 Reiserstown Road. The MSP lady also took my federal fingerprint cards for some reason (I had them in the same folder as the other stuff, and she saw them and specifically asked for them), but mailed them back with the signed forms. I kept my photos.

Thanks for the tip about not signing the Form 4s in advance.

I'll get the prints taken at CJIS. Last time I did this in 2007, I had the prints done by some (apparent) volunteer at the Jessup barracks. I had to wait forever on line and then the prints were bounced as blurry. I got them redone at CJIS and all was ok. Seeing that CJIS and the firearms section are about 1 mi apart, I'll just go the CJIS route.

On a bit of a side note, the govt has made it such a pain in the butt to do this that it really makes you want to buy up as many Class 3 things as you can afford just to get through the process. I'm thinking that I don't really see myself wanting or needing a 7.62 can, but maybe I should got get one now and make it my holiday give in 2011.

Just do a trust, took me all of 5 minutes with will maker

Or call your local sheriff's office and ask if he/she will sign. Ask for a 10 minute appointment to discuss the paperwork if he/she is unfamiliar with the process so you can explain it, or mail the forms and a letter explaining what is needed (I suggest 'sign here' stickies so there are no issues).

I'm in Montgomery County. They actually do a proper criminal background check through the Criminal Justice Information System (or whatever CJIS stands for). They check the quality of the fingerprints, etc. Big production.

Has anyone here met with a local sherrif in Montgomery County and gotten a sign off that way?

I am interested in this as well as I may give this method a whirl if i decide not to form a trust.

I really want to give this method a try, but I will admit that with the recent internet "rumors" about the BATFE approving trusts, then saying "oopsy, it isnt good afterall" and then being charged with possession of an NFA device...it makes me skeptical enough to want to do a lot more research into it. Has anyone here actually taken the time to call the NFA branch and speak with them regarding Quicken and Socrates willmakers? I know that they cant give legal advice, but perhaps something along the lines of if what they are seeing coming in is in general good-to-go or are they having to disapprove many because of problems.

You'll never get an ATF lawyer on the phone, the guy that answers the phone doesnt know anything more than what his computer screen tells you.

If MSP returns my prints as not good enough, I'll definitely go with a trust for round two.
