Keep saving. There are far fewer Garands and K31s out there than Mosins, so the price of those will outpace the Mosin by far. In 3 years, you'll still be able to get cheap Mosins, not so much with the others.

I agree, there are litereally tens of millions of Nagants still out there and barring any UN treaty making countries destroy them before they get here, they will be cheap for probably a decade at least IMO.

I was planning to spend $90 to get my Universal M1 Carbine accurized but what I could do is use the money and get a Mosin. :) I'm already getting about 2 MOA at 100 yds so accurizing may not gain much for a M1 Carbine.

It's still up this a.m....
BTW, anyone know what they mean by "excellent plus condition"?
I would take that to mean "almost new", with a correspondingly nice bore.

I don't know either but I'm guessing it means "never-fired" condition. I wanted one real nice condition laminated Mosin so I ordered one. Total with shipping came to $101.71

Ak, when you get it I'd be real interested in your opinion of it, even if it's not on sale anymore. Especially the bore condition. I have a hex 91/30 that I haven't slugged yet, but the "bullet gage" muzzle test looks good - it protrudes a lot more than my M44 which slugged to .314/.302.

I'll be sure to post info and photos when I get it HC
Can you explain whe you mean by a "Bullet gage muzzle test"?

Insert an unfired cartridge into the muzzle (bullet end first, o'course), and it should stick out a little bit... 1/8" or so. If it bottoms out to the cartridge neck, or close, the barrel is pretty worn.
This won't work with counterbored muzzles, of course... and it doesn't say anything about the rest of the bore. It's just a quick & dirty test that you can perform on the spot, as well as removing the bolt and looking down the barrel to check the rifling.

I have read over on TFL that it may not mean the barrel is shot out and it may have been made that way. Over the years, during the wars and in different plants, the Mosins bores can vary from .308 to .315. This affects accuracy when using spec ammo of course, but if you cast your own or you can find bullets the proper diameter and you reload, then you should get good results with an oversized Nagant bore that is not shot out.

Check out this guy... shooting a M91/30 with a 2.5x scope, he's plinking a 24" steel plate at 425 yards (using handloaded .308 boattails.):
