I was surprised the Savage River Shooting Range wasn't crowded this past weekend. I sure enjoyed myself. Had the place to myself. I don't know if anyone on the board has been to the Gar. Co. range, so I thought I would post a couple pictures. I suggest bringing your own target stand.

looks like a nice range Sam. Is that 200 or 300 yard max?

Thanks for putting those up Sam, that does look like a nice range. I shoot out that way some, near Accident. I have access to a private farm and can get back to 1,200 or so if I work at it.

I used to go up there on MLK day in January since it is one of the few days I get off in the first quarter of the year. The only problem is it is sometimes windy and usually about 10 degrees F in January. My son almost gave up on shooting after that. He had to shoot with a ski mask on, but gloves didn't work too good with his Cricket. I asked later that year in the summer if he wanted to go to the range and he said no; he associated the range with bitter cold even though it was the middle of July. I think the last time, we had to walk in 6 inches of snow down the hill because it wasn't plowed. I kind of miss those days. Now I either go to my buddy's gun club range or to Green Ridge (They have those tubes you have to shoot through though).

I always thought Savage looke longer than 100 yards, I suppose if I had a laser range finder, I could verify.

One time we were driving up there and along the road where the big cutout for the power lines passes through was a big ol' black bear walking around. I'm glad he didn't come over to the range, he was probably faster than me. You have to love all that the outdoors has to offer in West. MD.

If they haven't fixed the one tube that the foam was removed from and somebody shoots at that position while you are there, you'll appreciate why they have those tubes. Even with hearing protection on. Although it does suck that you can't shoot any position but bench with a centerfire rifle there because of them.

I guess if you want to practice prone shooting, you can crawl into one of the tubes. ;)
