Certainly not going to make you proficient by just reading about it, but here's some food for thought

My favorite quotes:
If we engage a bad guy (BG), we will shoot him until he STOPS what ever he is doing that threatens our life.
If he continues to threaten us after being shot, what do we do?
Answer: Shoot him some more.
When he STOPS, we stop shooting.
Some want to rest the buttstock on their hip to make reloading easier.
This might work for quail hunting, but quail don't shoot back.
What if he re-engages?
Answer: Shoot him some more.
Then, when he Stops, scan and reload.
What if I have a failure?
Answer: Fix it.
The Failure Fairy isn't going to drop down to help you. You are on your own and had better be prepared to fix the problem.

He should update it by saying, "Recycle the materials in the firearm, sorted by plastic and metal, then place them in the government approved receptacle for pickup at curbside. Then proceed to the nearest gun shop to pick up a new firearm." :D

It was one of his more entertaining updates, I'm a big fan.

In all honesty, I've used shotguns for both the Coast Guard and the PD. I have never yet needed a breacher. They look cool and don't detract anything, but a regular Mossy 500 or Remmy 870 will serve most people just fine in my opinion. Most of Old_Painless's shotgun shoots feature a Mossberg Maverick, so it's not exactly an expensive gun.
On a side note, I do take as gospel his recommendations about the importance of a sling and his reloading drills. It's because of reloading from a side saddle in that fashion that I like a pistol grip on my shotguns. Seems to make it a little easier to hold with my right while I'm loading with my left.

I hate side saddle holders, they make an already heavy gun heavier, I realize they do help keep a few extra shells close, but by it's nature a shotgun is for quick and dirty fighting over in a matter of seconds, not for long drawn out gunfights, however, due to the limited capacity, a normally awkward and slow reload may be neccisary, if you are expecting trouble a competition shell holder(open top belt holder), or even a speedloader are a better way to go IMO, they can be placed on a table next to your shotgun and can be thrown in a pocket if you do not have time to fix them to a belt.

Damn, now I want to go shoot my 590!
I've always been a side saddle reloader. Being left handed I think it's easier. I keep the strong hand hold, and use the week hand to pull shells and load.

Something to keep in mind. A buttstock is just plain ole common sense and easy to point, the breachers are cool looking but can murder the wrist, gotta have good hand to eye coordination also.
Might want to consider a pump over a semi, an off the shelf semi can be finnicky with ammo such as over gassing, or not enough umph to reload another round if you get a squib. Where as a pump will put lead down range whatever it's fed.
