Since Heller and DC started registering handguns again and as of last Friday for civillians:

237 Total revolvers and semi-automatic handguns brought in to begin the registration process

157 handguns registered

For long guns since Heller:

107 Total rifles/shotguns brought in to begin the registration process

68 rifles/shotguns registered

The disparity between registered firearms and ones brought in to be registered I think has to be because they were brought in very recently since it should not usually take more than a month to finish the process.

Also, this current law will only last for so long and they have to pass another one within 225 days after 9/17/2008. Big changes does not seem likely at this point so the current law may be pretty much what DC is going with from now on.

Hey Don, it looks like I may compile a brochure after all. Any idea how I should structure it?

Novus -- How much info is in the public record on the folks who have registered firearms? For obvious reasons it would be best if identities, addresses etc. were held confidential, but I suspect a random cross section of the folks involved would paint quite an attractive and politically potent picture of the cordite community to counteract the ubiquitous negative propaganda from Brady & MSM. But this may be the subject of the brochure you mention...

Shortly after the decision Medic and I went down to the headquarters to ask questions and before I could even finish asking the FOIA question about who owns handguns in DC, I was told there is a privacy matter and there is no way personal information about gun owners would be released (). However, when I cleared it up and and mentioned I meant the demographics and not actual names or identities, that became an entirely different matter.
I asked which police districts had more handguns registered (before the 1976 ban) and I was going to ask which district the new handguns were regisetered most since the end of the ban (to see if they are dangerous areas which saw the need for protection the most). However, I was informed that the District does not compile handgun owner data by police district.
I never thought to ask about other demographics and I am not sure if they can do it yet.

hmmm.... I wonder if any of them are MDShooters? There is a motherlode of good ammo/news here for us if we could just figure out how to tap it. The demographic data would be useful but that's just the tip of a positive PR iceberg, I think...

Well, we do have one DC resident on this board so far. It is a start.
