View Full Version : Future shoot event idea

This is not an idea for the next shoot, but for some future one beyond it. I was wondering if we should ask Zeke at Delmarva if we can put a car downrange at like the 200 yard line?
I figure what we need is someone to strip a junker of fluids and anything else that might be a problem to clean up or no be a good idea to shoot, someone who has a rollback for taking it away after we are done, and take donations to pay for it all. (shouldn't be too much if we strip it ourselves and have the rollback)
Think about just how much fun it would be to shoot up the car and how much fun everyone will have.
Don, Spot and Norton, if you think this thread should be in The Water Cooler forum, then go ahead and move it.

Problem with shooting at cars (or anything else big and metal) is that there is almost a certainty of rounds bouncing over the berms, and heading to god knows where, you don't really see how bad it is until you try it with tracers:innocent0

Not that you personally know anything about that....

Well, not that going over the berm is ever a good thing, but a tumbling bullet travels a fraction of the distance a spiraling bullet does.

Got that right. It is amazing just how far and and at what crazy angles of departure they go.Well, not that going over the berm is ever a good thing, but a tumbling bullet travels a fraction of the distance a spiraling bullet does.
Perhaps, but instead of talking about going 3 miles or more straight back (we intentionally hit stuff with aimed, direct fire beyond 1 mile (1,760 yards)), a deflected bullet may go at almost any obtuse angle to the direction of fire and the "fraction" you guess at might still yield over a mile of travel. Further, there is no assurance at all that it will tumble.

Reminds me of years ago. I used to go over my buddies house out in his back field and shoot at an old buick skylark using an sks and steel core ammo. All I can say is that was cool.

for an idea on what happens, look at all the tracers bouncing everywhere behind the target car. This would look fairly close to the same as 50 of us mag dumping into it, as the dillon basically fires 308s, it is fairly representative of where the lead would go:D

Lets just say an old olds station wagon met a fitting end You could fire right into sheet metal, then hear that cool PPFFFFWWWWNNNNNGGGGG sound, and see a patch of leaves fall off of a tree 20 feet high, and about 45 degrees away from the initial target. I also learned that hitting an empty gas tank with tracers is really cool:D

A friend back in Tennessee once rigged an old car to drive around in a circle and he and some others took shots at it until it finally died. There was an old limestone chimney that we literally leveled with rifle fire over a period of years. Must be a ton of brass in the area. Milsurp ammo was about in the same cost range as .22 in those days.

great idea novus. keep coming up with em until we find one that works.
something i found fun to shoot is half-used cans of Great Stuff insulation. If you dont use the whole can at once the crap freezes up in the tube and becomes useless. when shot the can pops and yellow foams goes in every direction for about a 15 foot radius. i know, it's not very safe either but.. if you get the chance sometime to give it a try... :party29:

Cheap dollar store packs of shaving cream does a similar thing, and cleans up easier. So far my favorite is those little grenade shaped plastic jugs of colored sugar water, a case of them normally costs about $2, and they explode when hit in various colors.

There is an idea I have had for years and I even mentioned it once or twice on this board. It is a bleeding target.
Take two flat pieces of cardboard and a paper cardboard divider similar to this:
http://i23.ebayimg.com/05/i/000/e3/55/9657_1.JPG
But get one with one inch spaces.
Attach it to one flat thin cardboard or thick but absorbent paper with glue or somthing and fill each division with a red paintball and then cover and attach the other cardboard.
Place in a frame at the range leaning slightly towards the shooter and put on the front a target with someone like Bin Laden on it and whenever a bullet pierces the target it busts a paintball and as the red paint leaks out the target bleeds.
Never did this idea or tried. It would be great if someone tried it. ;)
Could also make one with a picture of Dr. Spock or a martian and use green paintballs. :D

Here is what you need to shoot at.
http://www.tannerite.com
Binary explosive. Completely legal and safe but it really goes boom!!! when impacted with a hight velocity rifle round!
Check out the video http://www.tannerite.com/nu.mpg

Wait til 11/05, there'll be plenty of autos to shoot at.
The messiah drive-by gang bangers!
It's been quoted, "the next Riot, "we won't be burning our neighborhoods".
Special Alert for those residing close to Bars/Package Goods & Appliance Stores! ;)

I have a case.....had it for a few years now. Problem is I am worried once I mix the ingredients will I have a conflict with MD law? I am waiting to go to WV or VA to set it off at a range just to be safe.

Even though you can have a tank with a cannon, I think it is illegal to have the gun loaded because of the MD hunting statute. :lol2:
But seriously, I doubt "cannon" or "destructive device" is covered by the hunting statute. So sounds like a good idea.

first: that poor poor rx-7...why couldnt they just give it to me so i could build up "smokey II"....
second: i believe that ol'station wagon is currently about up to its rear views in the hoopers island mud the last time i went to visit her. i made sure to send a few 7.62x 54r's through her to make sure she was good and gone...dont need a phantom car coming back for revenge...zombies i think we've got covered...but possessed auto's??? oh boy...

i've shot various things at a few cars.....ricochets (particularly with .223) are a major hazard. we did it at close range with different weapons to simulate "urban combat" conditions and see what weapons would work effectively against a vehicle.
on a side note: Tannerite is perfectly legal. we use it by the case at machine gun shoots out in western MD. last time the Staties showed up because some fruitcakes on bicycles (who, incidentally, were off state land and on PRIVATE land-i saw them when i was taking a wizz, AK over one shoulder and pistol on my hip) called to report automatic weapons fire and explosions (that would be teh tannerite and a few assorted propane tanks hit with a .444 marlin to open em up and then immediately follwed by a .50BMG firing an APIT round). cops showed up. checked paperwork, didnt look happy, but left us alone once they saw that we had paperwork for everything (not to mention having them HEAVILY outgunned)

I think it has to be a replica of an antique cannon to be ok, so can you imagine this on a tank? :D

Hell just mount that in the back of an old pickup with a system to manage recoil. I'm going to do some research (aka going to watch the A-team later :D)
